If you look at the size of Madeira, you can hardly imagine that this island has so much to offer! From many historical monuments, squares and streets in the capital of Funchal to enchanting gardens, picturesque villages, amazing landscapes, impressive volcanic caves, rugged coast lines, beautiful natural beaches and, last but not least, breathtaking views, there is so much to see that you will soon realize that one visit to Madeira just isn’t enough!

In Calheta's Marina you will find some of the best-equipped boats for big game fishing in the Mid-Atlantic with very experienced crews for your unforgettable fishing trip.

Madeira being ideally located on the migratory routes of big game fish, record size catches of Blue Marlin (with more than 1,000 lbs) and Big Eye Tuna are not uncommon during the season from June to September. Other species to be fished in the bountiful waters of Madeira are Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Bonito, Spearfish, Swordfish, and Dolphin

Shopping and local climate: Arco da Calheta is a very attractive village which has a social centre, cafes and a number of small supermarkets which sell everything you need.

Opposite the Calheta Beach hotel there is a well-stocked Pingo Doce supermarket, bank and travel agent.

In front of the Calheta Beach Hotel, is the only white sand beach in Madeira, man made with the sand imported from Morocco

The locals reckon that Arco da Calheta has the best micro-climate of the entire island.

It is a quiet location – you are more likely to hear the neighbours’ dogs and chickens than traffic.

Restaurants and hotels: There are several bars and restaurants lining the marina promenade, with plenty of choice and reasonable prices. Best restaurant by far is the AkiCalheta, the one nearest the hotel end. It is run by a Madeirans who previously lived in South African, and offers the best combination of good simple cooking, good ingredients, value for money and service that we came across anywhere. Best bar is Mad Era - excellent staff, one of the more interesting theme bars you are likely to find on your travels and of course there are the Mad Dancers on a Saturday

The Calheta Beach Hotel which is down by the beach has a spa which the public can use and there is a leisure centre, banks and restaurants in Estreito da Calheta which is only 10 minutes drive from the house. Driving towards Funchal you will find Madelena do Mar where there are restaurants and bars and a rocky beach. Further on is Ribeira Brava, with another rocky beach. There is also a small market, a large supermarket, banks and a number of restaurants.
