We were in Madeira only last month (mid February)! We know the area quite well from previous trips to the island and we quite like to stay in Arco da Calheta itself as we think it has a lot to offer at more affordable prices in comparison to places to stay in Funchal city centre. We were a larger group last time we visited and therefore rented the entire property, both the apartment and the villa. The property is divided in 2 with the 2 bedroom villa above the 1 bedroom apartment! Both the villa and the apartment are spacious and bright as it benefits from large windows all around! The balconies are an added bonus if like us you enjoy eating out in the evenings. The views are fantastic and the caretaker who greets you on arrival is very friendly. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to friends or family and will shortly be going back again (already booked for the end of April) and will go back as many times as we decide to visit Madeira.

Apartment Miradouro

This is a lovely, well-equipped apartment with fantastic views over the bay - just as the web-site describes. There's more than enough room for 2 people, and everything was clean, comfortable and ready for our arrival. Paula (the caretaker) was very helpful, and always only a phone call away to answer any queries. The area is very quiet - it's the ideal place for a relaxing holiday.

We hired a car for our stay (essential at this location, in our view) and this is a good centre for touring all over the island, without having to deal with the traffic around Funchal. Walking to the top of the hill behind Arco (only for the energetic!) gives even more beautiful views. We were relieved to find a small bar up there for refreshment before starting back down!

We would definitely recommend this apartment.
Owner's Response: Thanks for your honest review Roy. It was a delight to host you and you are always welcome back.

Can we stay longer?

Review Submitted: 01 February 2013 Date of Stay: December 2012
Hello Kas . Yes thank you. We are settled and enjoying the apartment.
We will be staying one island longer but were thinking of finding something a little cheaper. What is the weekly rate here if we stay on?
Thanks
Rupert

Hi Kas. We just like your apartment so much we decided that we would rather stay than to move anywhere closer to where we have been surfing. Can we do the payment week by week, we want to stay as long as possible but will depend on some work commitments i have at home.
We have spoken with Paula also.
Regards
Rupert

Our accomadation experience in Madeira was trully outstanding
our apartment was real value for money.Tastefully furnished, with views that you only dream about. Our host went out of his way to make us feel at home. We felt like a barbecue one night and he instantly supplied us with a wonderful Weber. We were also treated to secure parking for our rented car which was a great plus. I would highly recommend you try this venue when next you visit the wonderful Island of Madeira. One of our best holidays ever.

We're just back from our holidays to Arco da Calheta and we enjoyed it very much! The apartment was clean, had a lot of room, good facilities and all this for a nice price.

The owner was there at the moment and was very helpful in telling us where to find a supermarket, the best restaurant of the area and beautiful walkings around the island.

When you don't have a car the property is a bit far away from a bigger city, with a tourist information. We hadn't one for the first week and it costed us some time to find out where the taxi's and busses departed.

We surely can recommend this apartment!
Owner's Response: This young couple were very good guests. Left the apartment in immaculate condition and they will always be welcome back.

The comment about the need for a car is justified. Although not absolutely vital because the property ir right on the busroute, and taxis are a phone call away, we do in the advertising recommend that visitors rent a car. They now confirmed that. We can assist with car rental and airport pick up and drop off.

Unfortunately you cannot have the beauty and peace and quiet of rural surroundings and city convenience all in one place.

We do have a file with useful information for visitors, but we have taken note of the need for public transport information and have since added it to the file

This apartment is perfectly situated for a quick drive down to the Calheta Marina and main beach, as well as the shopping area. Small cafe's and other shops are within walking distance as well.
The layout is modern and extremely spacious with lots of light. There are wonderful views down to the ocean. The bedroom is very comfortable, the bathroom with shower is modern and both are large. The living area is again spacious and the kitchen area offers all the mod cons including stove/oven, fridge and microwave.
A highly recommended apartment for anyone looking for a relaxed, easy and fully equipped holiday stay.

We had a wonderful two week stay in the apartment.
The apartment was pretty big and offered us a view you only dream about. It was well equipped and in a very good condition. We even got a secured parking lot for our rental car.
The friendly owner of the apartment was there at the moment and helped us out with any information we needed, like internet, supermarkets and restaurants. A small problem with the TV was sorted out immediately.
He also advised us to visit a nearby Portuguese street festival which was a very nice experience, with great food and good music.
We really felt at home and the owner did his best to support our holiday, we even had a washing machine for free.
The only „frightening“ thing i will remember is the steep driveway, which i did not really got along with
Summing up we can only say, it was a great stay in a wonderful apartment, with a great owner(which has a great taste of music, by the side) in a very pitoresque place.

Thanks for this wonderful stay

Greats Angela & Martin
Owner's Response: I am very glad to hear that you travelled back safely and have enjoyed your stay.

It is also good to know that the little compilation of music which I have put together on a USB stick for use by the guests on the little music centre, is considered to be in good taste.

Fixing the television issue was no big deal - before your arrival a cable was accidentaly unplugged and this required a reset of the modem which only take a few minutes.

The apartment was left in excellent condition and we look forward to host you again in future.

Our holiday in villa Miradoura in June 2012

We have had the pleasure to spent 3 weeks in June on the beautiful island of Madeira in villa Miradoura. We arrived late at night by car from the airport. The housekeeper was waiting for us. She explained how to enter the garage in a way so that you would be able to get the car to the street again.
The holiday house was clean with lots of space, in a quiet neighbourhood with a very nice view on the Atlantic Ocean. A spacious living room with TV and WiFi (the signal strength required searching for the best place, which apeared to be the bath room).
The beach in Calheta was a 20 minutes drive. Via a spectacular road with sometimes 30% incline the National Park could be reached in 30 minutes. We very much enjoyed the walks in the vulcanic landscape.
It was a pity that the sat TV only showed Portuguese channels.

We can recommend this villa without any reservation. The price/quality
relation of this holiday home is excellent! In our opinion you definitely need a car when you visit this part of the island
Owner's Response: Dear Tuus and Gerhard,

It was a pleasure to have had you here.

It is a pity that there was a problem with the number of channels that you could see on the TV. That has since been sorted out and guests now have access to 104 channels which include a large number of english and other language channels.

Thank you for leaving the apartment in such good state upon your departure. You will always be welcome again
